Too Much On My Plate!
I was in the car driving to my next meeting, and these questions were going around in my mind:
What do you do when you’ve got way too much on your plate? Not only do you have a lot on your plate, but you’re keeping a lot of other plates spinning at the same time.
How to you find the balance needed to keep all those plates moving?
I’m at a point in life where everything on my plate seems equally important. I don’t have nonsense things on my plate. Everything on my plate right now is important to me and I can’t afford to take anything off.
Then, something a good friend told me a while ago popped into my head. I’ll never forget it. “When you have too much on your plate, you’ve got to get a bigger plate!”
The way to a bigger plate is to increase your efficiency and your discipline in order to work smarter. These three steps will take you a long way towards getting that plate:
Become more disciplined.
Become more efficient with your time.
Become smarter in how you work.
You’re already working hard. You can’t work any harder – that implies that you’re not working hard enough. But what if you’re already working as hard as you can? You can work smarter. You need to become more disciplined to make sure you’re doing things efficiently and on time.
So, I started thinking about how to do that. Man, you know, it was feeling like this was really difficult. I felt overwhelmed by all the things I needed to do. So, I started by identifying the areas in my schedule where I could make more efficient in my use of time. I worked on increasing my discipline so that I could work smarter. And then, I realized a key piece was missing, and saw what I needed to do.
One of the biggest things I’m learning is to outsource work. I delegate as much as I can and have put some of my tasks on the plates of others, so that I can spend my time doing the things that actually move the needle, that actually build my business. I now have free time to do the things that allow me to work on what’s most important to me and my business.
I just thought I’d share that with you guys, because it’s important that you have the right mindset in order to make these changes.
Are you feeling overwhelmed and stressed out? Are you feeling like you’ve got so much going on in your life right now, that you don’t even know where to start? Do you feel like just shutting down?
Whatever you do, don’t shut down! That would be terrible. If you shut down, you would miss an important opportunity to grow in your discipline. See this as an opportunity to find ways to be more efficient and an opportunity to work smarter.
Growth is the ultimate goal. You feel overwhelmed in life when your level of responsibility is not matched by the level of discipline required to carry out those responsibilities.
Instead of shutting down, you’ve got to stay in grind to grow. Yes, growth can be painful, but you need to improve your discipline in order to be able to do more. If you shut down, you will stunt your growth, stunt your character development and stunt your progress.
I just want to encourage you guys, because I’m also feeling the grind. I’m feeling it and thought I should share my thoughts about it. It’s important to me to share as much helpful information as I can, using my social media platforms as a tool to do so. If I can help you improve your life in any way, I’d love to do that.
So, I hope you find this helpful. Share it or tag a friend who could use this message.
Love you guys! It’s an honor to be able to help you along this journey called life.
